How Long Do I Have to Respond After a Foreclosure Notice?

After you are served with a notice of foreclosure, you have 20 days to file an answer. This is an opportunity for you to write a defense to foreclosure proceedings. Properly filing an answer to a foreclosure complaint can buy you the time that you need to figure out a valid alternative to foreclosure, or can stop foreclosure proceedings altogether.

While you can file an answer to a foreclosure complaint without an attorney, it is highly recommended that you seek legal assistance. Before filing your answer, discussing your case with an experienced Long Island foreclosure defense attorney means that you will be able to fully understand your rights and options in this regard, and that you will know what to say in your answer. Your attorney can actually file your answer to foreclosure for you, saving you time and ensuring that it is done correctly. Your answer must be valid to have even a chance of being taken seriously by the court.

At Jacoby and Jacoby, our foreclosure defense lawyers are highly experienced in helping clients file their answers to foreclosure complaints in order to begin taking the legal action necessary to fight foreclosure. We represent clients throughout all of New York, including in Long Island, Suffolk and Nassau. We also offer a free initial consultation to discuss your particular matter and determine what a lawyer at our firm can do to help you.

Consult a Long Island foreclosure lawyer as soon as possible  if you have been served a notice of foreclosure. You have only 20 days to respond, and your answer will greatly impact whether or not you are able to keep your home and keep a foreclosure off your credit.   If you or someone you know is facing foreclosure in Nassau, Suffolk or Long Island, contact a Long Island foreclosure defense attorney at Jacoby and Jacoby today!
