Can a Bankruptcy Ever be Removed from my Credit Report?

Overdraft charges No, you cannot remove a bankruptcy from your credit report early.  A Chapter 7 bankruptcy can appear on your credit report for 10 years while a Chapter 13 bankruptcy will appear for seven years.  However, just because a bankruptcy appears on your credit report doesn't mean you cannot lessen the impact it has on your credit score.  A few months after your bankruptcy is filed, run a credit report on yourself (by law, you get one free per year) and make sure the record reflects that the amount owed on each of the discharged debts is zero.  Then make sure to remain current on any new bills and you will begin to rebuild your credit.

If you are in debt and considering bankruptcy, we can help! Make sure to contact us online or call The Law Offices of Jacoby & Jacoby at 631-289-4600 to schedule a FREE consultation to discuss your individual situation and get you closer to debt-free.
